Arthritis is a painful disease that inflames joints. Our feet are particularly susceptible to arthritis symptoms because they bear the weight of the entire body. In fact, each foot contains thirty-three joints. When arthritis strikes feet, life can be miserable.
Three types of arthritis particularly affect the feet. They are:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
Have You Been Diagnosed With Gout?
Gout is a chronic disease. It is characterized by severe attacks, primarily to the big toe. If you’ve been diagnosed with gout, you are keenly aware of how debilitating it can be. It is aggravated by weight gain and triggered by certain foods and beverages, such as meat and beer. And gout is more common in men than in women.
If you’ve already been diagnosed with gout and have modified your diet, you may still be having attacks. You may have been prescribed a medication called Allopurinol, but it often doesn’t work. Colchicine can be helpful for some patients, but it often includes nasty side effects, such as stomach upset and nausea, and will not treat severe cases of gout.
We Treat Gout Differently Here
Dr. Baldinger specializes in treating gout. His first goal is to reduce your pain as quickly as possible. Next, a long-term management protocol is be put in place with the goal of preventing more painful attacks in the future.
Here’s what our Gout care treatment looks like:
- Evaluation: First, an in-depth evaluation will be conducted which takes into consideration your overall health, your lifestyle, and your specific symptoms. No two people have the same experience with gout. We are keenly aware of that.
- The Correct Diagnosis: Sometimes gout turns out to not be the primary cause of a patient’s pain. To ensure he has the correct diagnosis, Dr. Baldinger will order x-rays and/or blood work. Quite often these tests uncover an underlying biomechanical issue that can quickly be addressed.
- Medical Coordination: The doctor will coordinate your care with your rheumatologist and/or general practitioner. This ensures all your caregivers on the same page. (Sadly, coordination doesn’t regularly occur in many practices).
- Short-Term and Long-Term Treatment Plan: With the correct diagnosis in hand, Dr. Baldinger will get you on the right treatment plan. It may include medication, arch supports, ankle braces, or other solutions designed to get you through painful episodes and prevent their reoccurrence.
We are committed to helping our patients live their lives to the fullest, without the fear of gout attacks.
